The LSC Strategic Area Review identified the need to improve further education facilities in Sittingbourne, which is the largest town in Kent not to have an FE college. Further work funded by Swale Forward identified the need for a centre in Swale in 2005, but funding could not be found for the project at that time.
GKA now have funding from CLG to establish a centre which will specialise in sustainable engineering for construction. We are working with the LSC and other partners to identify the exact needs of the area and hope to have a centre in operation by September 2008. The management of the centre will involve a number of learning providers in Swale including schools and Canterbury College.
