Sittingbourne and Sheerness will grow by 50% under the plans established for the Thames Gateway. The area is already strong in manufacturing, transport and logistics and these industries are likely to grow under the plans outlined in the Area Investment Framework.

Other plans include the upgrading of transport links, including a new crossing to Sheppey, the development of Kent Science Park as a major centre for life sciences and the Flying Start Project, which will celebrate the development of the British Aircraft Industry on Sheppey.

Swale has recognised the key role of learning and skills in enabling local people to play a full role in these developments and have given educational projects the top priority in the development of the area. New educational facilities such as the Learning Hub are central to their plans for the redevelopment of the area.
